When Buddha after getting his realization was heading towards Sarnath ( a place in Varanasi ) for his First sermon . On the way one small shepherd boy was so amazed by the appearance of the Buddha that he asks Buddha -- "What are You??"
Huston Smith in his book "Introduction to Buddhism" has wrote , many have been asked "Who are you?" very few in the history of mankind have been asked "What are you?"
Boy asks to Buddha - " are you a devata or God? Buddha says - "No" Boy again asks -"are you angel ( devdoot) or something like that?" Buddha said - "No" Boy again asks - "are you a human being?" Buddha says - "No" Boy again asks - "then, what are you?" Buddha says - " I am Buddha , the awakened "!
